Our Opportunity
This is a newly created part time role based at our Laboratory within the Stevenage Bioscience Catalyst (SBC) Stevenage, Hertfordshire.
Hours: 24 hours per week based on site at SBC (flexibility with days worked)
Contract: Fixed term for initially 12 months with possibility to extend
This is a great opportunity for an individual with a passionate for experimental science who loves to work in a laboratory setting, has an entrepreneurial mindset and comfortable taking ownership and initiative.
This role reports into the Head of Pre-Clinical Research and the right person will need to be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and excited by the prospect of working in a new and growing company. The successful candidate will liaise with internal and external stakeholders and collaborators from time to time and will have the opportunity to help shape and build the Company through a period of growth.
Some Key Responsibilities include:
✓ Formulation and preparation of buffers/reagents to support the in vitro development of API testing
✓ Cell culture and 3D printing would be beneficial but not essential.
✓ Biological activity of different cell lines and tissues under test conditions
✓ A good understanding of GLP including maintaining good laboratory records
✓ Cleaning and maintenance of laboratory equipment
✓ Supporting all audit requirements
✓ Manage lab consumables (ordering monitoring) and receiving deliveries
✓ Co-ordinating efficient running of the lab (e.g. shelf stocking)
✓ Glassware management (washing, autoclaving)
✓ Contribute to Health and Safety compliance (risk assessments, SOPs, COSHH, HTA)
✓ Organising shipping to our collaborators/CROs
Experience
Essential
✓ 2-3 years’ industry experience
✓ Experience in laboratory management and administration activities
✓ Attention to detail and ability to follow protocols
✓ Technical experience in laboratory support role
✓ A great team player with clear communication and a proactive, collaborative approach
✓ Ability to manage own time effectively and drive through initiatives with limited supervision
Desired
✓ Prior experience in setting up new laboratory premises
✓ Managing and implementing service schedule for laboratory equipment and coordinating engineer visits and routine maintenance
Qualification
Ideal candidate will have MSc and/or BSc biology, pharmacology or related fields
